HATHA YOGA is the physical practice of yoga. The Sanskrit word 'yoga' means to link, or join together. Linking the deliberate movement of the body to the deliberate movement of the breath is what constitutes Hatha Yoga. Out of this very basic idea has emerged a variety of yoga styles, all distinctly different in form and taught at different levels of experience. Some styles adhere to tradition, focusing on technique and precision, others are more creative and eclectic. All yoga classes taught here are a form of Hatha Yoga.

What classes should I take?

Beginners should take classes listed as Yoga Basics or Yoga Level 1. See our schedule and class descriptions
Do I need to sign up for my first visit or can I just show up?
If you are showing up for an ongoing class, you can simply come a few minutes before class in order to settle in, make your payment, sign in, and meet the instructor. If you are taking a session class, it is best to call beforehand and sign up. We rely on class pre-registration to determine if there is adequate enrollment.

How do I prepare for class?

Try not to eat a heavy meal at least two hours before practice but a small snack is fine if necessary. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. If possible, bathe prior to practice. Avoiding bodily odors as well as scented perfumes will help everyone breath more freely. Please stay at home if you are sick, and most importantly, leave your cellphone in your car!

What do I wear?
It is best to wear clothing that is non-restrictive. Anything that you would wear to workout in is probably appropriate (spandex clothing, sweat suits, loose shorts, t-shirts, etc.). Yoga classes are done in bare feet. Remove your shoes before entering the classroom. There are many places outside the studio rooms to leave your shoes and other personal belongings.
What do I bring?

Just your body and appropriate payment (we accept cash, check, or credit card). Yoga mats and props are provided, compliments of the studio, however, we encourage you to buy your own mat for hygienic reasons
What if I forgot my money?
Unfortunately, if you do not have money to pay, you cannot take a class. We understand how hectic life is, and that sometimes you walk out the door forgetting your wallet, but we have had difficulties collecting money later for unpaid classes. This policy helps class prices stay down, and allows us the opportunity to practice showing true gratitude and respect for ourselves and the teachers by honoring our financial obligations.

How early should I come?

First time students, please arrive 15 minutes early to register. Otherwise, try to arrive for class about five or ten minutes early. This will give you time to find a comfortable spot, warm up, and relax before class starts. Many times, a quiet meditation starts the class, so this will also ensure that you get don't distract others when you arrive. Latecomers, please wait until after the opening meditation is finished before entering the class.

When should I ask questions?

Be sure to mention any injuries or special concerns to instructors before class starts. Instructors are always available after class for additional questions.

What if I find yoga too difficult or intimidating?

There are many different forms of yoga and teaching styles to choose from. Maybe you need to try an easier class. Try a different class or different instructors to find the approach that is just right for you.

Why can't I be as flexible as the person next to me?

Yoga is non-competitive.We celebrate diversity in our classes and encourage all students to 'start where they are' and grow from that place.

Snow Policy

When snow or adverse weather is predicted, we monitor the conditions on an
hourly basis. Please call the studio and listen to the message, which is
continually updated as the weather situation changes.

Yoga classes often end with the instructor using this beautiful Sanskrit salutation that
comes from INDIA. It means:

I honor that place in you
where the whole Universe resides.

And when I am in that place in me

and you are in that place in you,

there is only one of us.
