AN INTRODUCTION TO DEPTH YOGA:
EMBODYING THE INNER WITNESS

DEPTH YOGA addresses all of the koshas, or layers of who we are-
not just the physical, but also the pranic, the psychological, intuitive, and the numinous.

DEPTH also refers to the unconscious. In depth yoga, we not only bring attention to those sensations,
thoughts, feelings and images that we have immediate access to, we also learn to listen to what is beneath the
surface. In this way, we develop a practice that encompasses a larger picture of who we are. We can then align
ourselves with our truest intentions and free up energy needed to live into our creative potential.
We do this with the steadfastness, compassion, and wisdom inherent in yoga.

THE INNER WITNESS is the internal observer/listener to the unfolding stories our body-minds tell.
The inner witness allows us to take an objective viewpoint to these stories which can then
reflect back to us who we are in that moment, with honesty and clarity.

In engaging with depth, we will utilize yoga asanas as well as other body-based
disciplines to explore the qualities of the inner witness:

ALERTNESS & RECEPTIVITY
INTEREST & CURIOSITY
COMPASSION & ACCEPTANCE

Friday evening (7:30-9:30pm) we will explore the qualities of alertness and receptivity
through a more playful practice that integrates yoga with contact improv.

Saturday afternoon (1-5pm) we will emphasize interest and curiousity,
compassion and acceptance, by integrating asana and pranayama with aspects of
Authentic Movement, movement therapy, meditation and Insight Yoga.

We will close with an experiential/ improvisational asana

practice that synthesizes the workshop’s themes.
