UN INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY WEEKEND
On September 19th, the Fall Equinox, the United Nations International Day of Peace, studios,
teachers and organizations across the globe will create fund raising celebrations, raising funds
and awareness for some of the most essential issues of our times.

A mala is a sacred garland, 108 prayer beads, a timeless tool for transformation.
This mala will be a part of a global gathering for unifying consciousness and action through yoga.
The purpose of the Global Mala Project is to unite the global yoga community from every continent in the
world, forming a "mala around the earth" through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108.
Mala students are not required to compete all 108 sun salutations. Do what you can and enjoy!

What is the The Global Mala Project?
Inspired by Shiva Rea, this is the largest unified worldwide
yoga event to encourage positive change in the history of westernized yoga.
Join us this year (every year!) as we join the rest of the yoga world community
to create a mala around the globe.
On September 19th, in honor of the Fall Equinox and the United Nations International Day of Peace, yoga studios, teachers, musicians, inspirational speakers and organizations across the globe will create a "mala around the earth" through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108, the auspicious number that the Indian culture and yogic philosophy are organized around.
The 108 Sun Salutations will be practiced in 4 rounds of 27 with a short rest in between.
The practice will take a total of about 2.5 hours. Participants can join in or stop at anytime.
This type of practice is an amazing journey and is very powerful. Most usually think it would
be too difficult but then marvel at the outcome.
Why 108 Sun Salutations?
The 108 salutation practice is named Mala, representing the 108 mala beads.
Why 108 Mala Beads?
The distance between the earth and sun is 108 times the diameter of the sun,
therefore, the number 108 is taken to represent the distance from the devotee to the source.
Each salutation will be treated as a mantra or meditation.
There are four Dedication Rounds
Dedications are made at the top of each Sun Salutation. You can create a pause in the
beginning but believe it or not one's heart begins to teach you in the flow. As you make the
dedication at the beginning of each salutation, meditate, move, breathe and circulate that
prayer through the whole round.
The Ritual Begins
Round One: Dedications for Personal Transformation and Realization. This round is for all of one's prayer
for your personal activation, healing, fertilization and manifestation of the potency of one's life. Self-realization
and actualization. No prayer is too earthy or heavenly.. Typically, the prayers are for healing qualities: compassion,
love, creativity and the specific areas and projects that are part of the transformative fabric of one's life.
Round Two: Dedications for Family, Friends and anyone you have unresolved conflict with.
Round Three: Dedications for the World – The Bodhisattva round where we pray for what we care about and are active in transforming from war, global warming, children with AIDS, to your local needs. A very powerful round.
Round Four: Dedications to the Source – The conversation between you, the life force, gratitude and joy.
Donations will be appreciated and accepted for
