TEACHER'S BIOS

Kelly Haas
Kelly is a dedicated student and teacher of Anusara Yoga. Since the beginning of 2006, Kelly has served as John Friend’s (Founder of Anusara) Tour Manager. She is grateful to spend most of her time traveling, studying, working and apprenticing with her teacher, John. Their travels have led them across the U.S. and to numerous countries, exposing Kelly to students around the globe. She has a great passion for cultures and languages. Her classes are playful, uplifting and explore the precise alignment principles of Anusara Yoga.

Corita Brown

Corita, a certified Anusara yoga teacher, has been a student of yoga for the last fourteen years. Corita’s classes, enriched by her humor, warmth, and detailed attention to students of all levels, are dynamic, challenging and fun.  She offers a framework of accessible alignment principles and biomechanical precision from which students can explore their creative potential, heal and transform (both on and off the mat!)  Her teaching style has emerged from a strong personal practice developed with the loving support of her teachers: John Friend, Bridget Woods-Kramer, Dana Flynn, Amy Ippoliti, and Sarah Mitchelson. Corita has taught classes and workshops in the United States, Spain, England, Germany, Mexico and Guatemala.  In 2004, she co-founded Anahata Center for Yoga and Holistic Therapies, the first Anusara yoga studio in Barcelona, Spain.  Corita moved to Durham in February 2008, and is delighted to be making her new home in the Triangle area community.

Mike Dorman

Michael Dorman has been a devoted student of Anusara Yoga since January, 2005.

Anusara Yoga's heart-centered practice has helped him connect more closely with others,

and he is dedicated to the local Anusara community. He has taken more than 150 hours of advanced Anusara instruction,he recently completed the Anusara Teacher Training program in June 2008 and is pursuing Anusara Certification. When not practicing or teaching the physical asana, Mike works to find the yoga in his marriage, cooking, programming computers and playing very loud electric guitar.

Michael Ward

Michael is currently in the review process for Anusara Yoga Certification. He continues regular studies with John Friend and maintains an invigorating daily asana practice.  To date, he’s completed over 1000 hours of intensive workshops and trainings; 300 hours directly with John Friend including Teacher Training Levels I & II and Yoga Therapy Trainings.  As a licensed massage & bodywork therapist, Michael has detailed knowledge of the body that he conveys to his students.  Understanding how and why the body functions facilitates a sense of empowerment which affords students the opportunity to be responsible for their own bodies. Michael's classes are insightful, inspiring & uplifting for various levels of practitioners.

Lila Brown

Lila Pierce Brown, E-RYT, is a Certified Anusara Yoga Teacher and the founder of Gateway Yoga in Raleigh, NC. She is dedicated to the life-affirming and transformational aspects of Anusara Yoga and feels blessed to share such an elegant practice with the community. A devoted student of yoga for ten years, Lila has been teaching for the past six and was certified by Anusara's founder, John Friend, in 2005. She has, and continues to train extensively with Friend, to whom she offers her gratitude. Lila also expands her understanding of yoga philosophy with Dr. Douglas Brooks, a skillful teacher and world-renowned scholar of Hindu Tantrism. Lila's teaching flows from the heart, intertwining Anusara's intricate philosophy with its brilliant Alignment Principles. In this way, Lila encourages students to tap into their limitless potential and joyfully reveal the radiance from within.

Hannah Byrum

Hannah first studied yoga while living abroad at Galway Yoga Centre in Ireland.

This Sevananda-style school gave her a firm foundation in the practices of Asana,

Pranayama, Meditation and Yoga Nidra. While living in NYC, Hannah studied at Integral

Yoga and upon returning to Chapel Hill (her home town), she continued expanding

her studies through Yin Yoga, Anusara Yoga, Bikram Yoga, and Vinyasa Yoga.

Hannah has completed a 200 hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training with Ti Harmony, a

200 hour Anusara Teacher Training with Paul & Sommer Sobin, a Level 1 Teacher Training

and a Level 1 Therapy Traning with Anusara Yoga Founder John Friend. Her passion for yoga and her desire to deepen her own practice brought her to numerous workshops with Angela Farmer and Victor VanKooten, Gabriel Halpern, Seane Corn, Patty Townsend, Sarah Powers, Todd Norian, and Paul Grilley.

Lindsey Waite

RYT, practiced yoga for four years prior to attending her first yoga teacher-training program at Frog Lotus Yoga in the Berkshire Mountains during the summer of 2005. Upon returning to the Triangle area, she was introduced to the Anusara community and immediately fell in love with the heart-oriented practice. Eager to learn as much as she could about Anusara, she began a serious practice with local Anusara teachers, Patricia Mickelberry, Paul and Sommer Sobin, and Lila Pierce Brown. During the summer of 2006, she went a step further on her path and spent a week in Costa Rica participating in an Immersion with Anusara Yoga's founder, John Friend. Lindsey is currently embarking on an Anusara Immersion and teacher-training program with Lila Brown and Paul and Sommer Sobin. She is immensely grateful of the support of the Anusara kula, whose love and energy she finds completely fulfilling.
