In this week of high flying adventure, students will learn basic aerial fabric and trapeze skills as well as improvisational and performance techniques.  Throughout the week, students will work together to create a themed performance to present at the culmination of the camp.  In the past, themes have included The Hero Myth, Bridge Building, Dreams, Elements, and Pirates.  They will develop characters, movement, and basic costumes to help bring their aerial story to life.  

No experience necessary, students will work in groups based on ability.

 

Monday:

Movement Introductions and Warm Up

Fabric basics and conditioning

Improvise with figure 8 footlock

Brainstorm and choose theme for performance

Movement exploration based on the theme Trapeze basics with a partner


Tuesday: Team Building Warm Up

Review Trapeze partnering and continue with new material

Divide into small groups to create original choreography based on chosen characters

Fabric Technique

Knot Improvisation

Yoga and Relaxation


Wednesday:

Conditioning Warm UP

Fabric Technique Work in small groups to continue choreography

Share what you've created with the group

Practice Trapeze Partnering

Movement Games


Thursday: Team Building Warm Up

Finish sections of choreography

Create costumes

Run finished sections

Fabric Technique

Yoga Meditation and Relaxation

Amanda Leoni received her education in Aerial Fabric and Static Trapeze from the New England Center for Circus Artsin Vermont. She studied with Elsie and Serenity Smith (the Trap Twins) formerly of the CirqueDu Soleil, and continues to focus on the foundations of teacher trainings in Aerial Acrobatics. In addition to her tainings at the New England Center for Circus Arts, Amanda furthered her studies in LABAN Movement under Susan Murphy. She has a genuine love and passion for performing, teaching children, and helping others pursue their goals in acrobatic fitness.

Amy Calhoun's love of dance started young. She trained in Aerial Dance with Jill Menard, with Amy Powell of Chattanooga Aerial, with Caroline Calouche in Charlotte, and Caroline Wright of the NECCA. Amy is a fan of AcroYoga and an avid partner dancer having studied blues, tango, and fusion.
